Common illnesses like colds or predictable conditions like seasonal allergies can sometimes be easy to diagnose on your own, but there are many different kinds of illnesses and conditions that are trickier to pinpoint at home. That’s where we come in!
Our team is highly knowledgeable and can help diagnose you faster. In addition to a physical exam, we have a variety of diagnostic tools at our disposal to help us along the way. We are proud to have a state-of-the-art lab right on site!
Our AFC Urgent Care Arden team explains what tests our lab can run below, so read on to learn how this reliable tool can help you feel better faster.
Does the Lab Just Do Blood Draws?
We are able to process a wide variety of samples and tests through our lab, thanks to our lab technicians and processing machines! We have the ability to diagnose the flu, COVID-19, strep and RSV using one of our rapid tests in as little as 10 minutes, and we perform urinalysis and cultures that can help identify infection.
We also can draw your blood and perform multiple tests to dig deeper into your condition or symptoms. One of the common tests that we run regularly is called a CBC, or complete blood count. This test simply takes a sample of your blood and measures and counts the blood cells. This gives our providers a good benchmark about your wellness because your blood can tell a lot about you!
Possible Conditions CBCs Can Detect
- Anemia
- An infection
- Immune system disorders
- Blood diseases
Is Anemia Treatable?
You have probably heard of the condition called anemia! That’s because it is the most common blood condition in the entire world, affecting about one third of the entire population. Anemia appears when your red blood cell count is low and your body isn’t producing the amount that it should be.
This can lead to symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, lightheadedness and rapid heartbeat. Thankfully, anemia is treatable with diet and lifestyle changes! It is still important to visit with your care team to receive a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. We can help you feel better and reverse your symptoms of anemia any day of the week.
Diet Changes to Treat Anemia
- Eat iron-rich foods like lean meat, fish, eggs and dried beans.
- Consume more folic acid from dark, leafy green vegetables.
- Increase your vitamin D intake.
- Take an iron supplement, if prescribed.
