Heat Exhaustion

June 30, 2014

Heat Exhaustion is a heat related syndrome, which generally ranges from mild heat cramps to possible heatstroke. Symptoms of heat exhaustion usually present suddenly and occur following exercise in the heat, heavy sweating, and general lack of fluids.  Heat exhaustion symptoms include the following:

  • Dizziness
  • Yellow / amber colored urine
  • Nausea
  • Intense sweating
  • Headache
  • Cramps
  • Heart Palpitations
  • Low Fever

If you experience these symptoms, it is important that you stop what you are doing and get into an area that is cooler and shady.  You should immediately drink water and give your body a chance to cool down.  If you have access to a spray bottle or sponges use either one to aid in the process of cooling your body further. If you run a fever of 104 degrees or more, or experience fainting or seizures, call 911 or access the closest emergency medical center.
