Coronavirus Antibody Testing

AFC Urgent Care Stamford is offering COVID-19 antibody blood testing to detect patients with a past infection with coronavirus as well as patients that were recently vaccinated for COVID-19. The results are available within 2-5 days.

What hours are you testing?

Walk-in testing is available for patients that need an antibody test seven days a week. Hours for antibody testing are from 8AM to 8PM on Mon-Fri and 8AM to 5PM on Saturday & Sunday.

Who can be tested?

Only patients over the age of 15 who are asymptomatic (not exhibiting any sign or symptoms of active coronavirus infection) for at least 14 days can be tested.

What is the difference between the antibody test and molecular COVID-19 test?

The antibody test is a blood test which tests for past infection and is very different from the molecular COVID-19 test, which is done with a nasal swab, and is checking for active presence of the COVID-19 virus itself.

How long before I get my results?

Results usually take about 2 to 5 days. This timing is based on current laboratory capacity and subject to changes/delays.

What is the cost of the test?

From what we have learned, insurance will cover the cost of the test, however, we encourage you to reach out to your carrier to be 100% certain before testing. The CPT code for this test is 86769. If you do not have insurance, the cost of the testing is $150.

How is the testing performed?

You will first have a consultation with our medical provider during your walk-in visit at our urgent care clinic and COVID testing facility. The provider will make sure you are asymptomatic prior to the blood draw and document the timing and nature of past symptoms (if any). Last, but not least, the provider will counsel you on the limitations of the test and interpretation of results. When you come in for your blood draw, we ask that you come to the center wearing a mask.

What laboratory are you working with to perform the testing?

This antibody test is being offered through Quest Laboratories, a leader in infectious disease testing services. Quest is using the Abbott Architect Kit. Is the test FDA approved?

This test is has been approved for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the FDA.

  • Negative: it means that you did not make antibodies to COVID-19 (This coupled with your negative result for acute COVID-19 infection means you have not been infected nor are you acutely infected.)
  • Positive: it means that you may have been infected with COVID-19 in the recent past and have developed antibodies.
  • The CDC and US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the confirmation of the precise protection that these antibodies grant us. Please refer to the CDC’s website for more information as decisions will be made in the future regarding the interpretation and usage of these test results.

    AFC Urgent Care FAQs

    • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

    • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

    • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
