X-rays are the most basic form of imaging tests. They are diagnostic procedures used to view the body’s internal structures. You do not need to do anything to prepare for an X-ray and the test should not cause any significant discomfort. These tests can help physicians diagnose fractures, tumors, arthritis, lung damage, and more. X-rays utilize minimal amounts of radiation in order to create images. Radiation exposure from an x-ray should not cause any damage to an adult or child, but could be dangerous for a developing baby. Additionally, if you have received other radiation-based imaging tests in the last year you should tell the doctor. Exposure to imaging radiation several times in a short time could be damaging. Otherwise, these are one of the safest medical procedures available!
If you need x-rays, our skilled medical staff can give you quick, efficient, affordable care. No appointments are necessary!
If you’re suffering from an undiagnosed, non-life-threatening injury, simply walk into our Suffolk urgent care clinic for prompt treatment.
X-rays do use small amounts of radiation, but they’re generally safe for adults and children. That being said, there are some cases where they can be damaging – to developing babies, for instance. Your AFC provider will take your circumstances into account and answer your unique questions about safety.
Your local AFC team can help you answer that question when you contact them. If you’ve experienced a fall or other injury and are in pain, an X-ray could help determine the best course of treatment. They’re also used in a variety of other circumstances.
At AFC, we always strive to get you in and out as quickly as possible, and the X-ray itself should only take around 15 minutes
