What to bring to your DOT/CDL Physical Exam
Be sure to bring a list of your current medications (if any) when you arrive for your DOT Physical Exam. If possible, it is also recommended you bring a copy of your most up-to-date medical records, including information on any hearing or vision disorders. These conditions do not automatically rule you out for a successful DOT physical, but keeping them hidden from a physician could result in serious consequences in the future.
DOT physicals follow a plan laid out by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and will test for the following:
- Vision disorders
- Hearing disorders
- High or low blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Vascular disorders
- Physical disability
- Neurological disorders
- Lung disease
A DOT Physical is only valid if conducted by a FMCSA-certified physician and our physicians have been certified to perform them. A physical will generally remain valid for 24 months and can be renewed anytime before that period.
