4th Of July 2020: New Safety Precautions During COVID-19

April 28, 2021

Another holiday during COVID-19? When will it end? As many of us try to plan for the 4th of July, COVID-19 means we need new safety precautions on top of firework safety. AFC Urgent Care Torrington is here to help flatten the curve with safety precautions during COVID-19.

Getting Tested for 4th of July

Before planning a 4th of July event with friends and family, think about the safety of others during the pandemic. There’s a reason as to why restrictions and rules are in place. This way we can flatten the curve and continue to see cases go down.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I show symptoms of COVID-19?
  • Is everyone at the social gathering COVID-19 free? Have they been tested?
  • Will there be hand sanitizer and will masks be worn at the event?
  • Is the gathering under 100 people?
  • How open is the space I’m going to be in? Will it be crowded?

If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, do not attend any 4th of July events. You do not want to expose others to the virus. Instead, practice CDC guidelines about isolation and when to retest to go out again. If you do go to a 4th of July event, make sure you get tested for COVID-19 at AFC Urgent Care Torrington. This is because expanding your social circle over the holiday could increase your exposure to COVID-19.

Fireworks and social distancing

Wherever you decide to celebrate, please remember to practice social distancing from others. The Consumer Product Safety Commissions recommends that you follow these safety tips when using fireworks:

  1. Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
  2. Avoid purchasing fireworks packaged in brown paper as this is a sign that the fireworks were made for professional displays and could pose a threat to consumers.
  3. Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not fully ignited.
  4. Keep water or a hose handy in case of a fire or other mishap.
  5. Never point or throw fireworks at other people.
  6. After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.
  7. If you get burned or injured while igniting a firework at an outdoor activity, seek immediate medical attention.

Remember to wear proper PPE equipment like face cloths and gloves so that you can reduce the exposure of the COVID-19 virus.
