When is it safe to return to work? Governor Lamont’s plan to return to work has already rolled out on May 20th for phase 1. But, with Phase 2 around the corner many businesses that are yet to open are still preparing in order to make their facilities cleaned and prepped for its employees and customers. AFC Urgent Care Torrington wants to help Connecticut return to work, but this also means helping employees and everyone else stay COVID-19 free.
What should you know about returning to work in Phase 2?
Phase 2 is set to start on June 17th moved up a few days from the June 20th original date. With the hope of declining cases and an increase in testing, Governor Lamont plans to make sure we’re moving forward with rules and regulations for businesses. Employers are taking the precautions to screen employees before coming in to work every day. Screening questions and procedures can include:
- Taking employees temperature and short health survey
- Keeping a daily log of all employees
- Asking employees if they’ve been exposed to someone who has COVID-19 symptoms (this includes family members)
- Providing documentation of returning from illness that they’re fit to work
- Asking if they’ve been tested yet
Employees who have symptoms (fever, cough, or shortness of breath) must notify their supervisor, remain home, and follow CDC-recommended steps.
COVID-19 back to work plan
With June 17th right around the corner, we must remember that there is still a pandemic. Businesses must have a plan when reopening. To remain open, here are some steps and Connecticut guidelines all employers can follow to protect their workers from COVID-19:
- Employees must wear a mask or other cloth material that covers his or her mouth and nose.
- Hand sanitizer and antiseptic wipes should be provided for workers who are into contact with communal surfaces or serving customers.
- CDC guidance recommends that “surfaces frequently touched by multiple people, such as door handles, desks, phones, light switches, and faucets, should be cleaned and disinfected at least daily.”
- Employees should maintain a six-foot distance from one another-- by moving furniture or desks to separate workstations, operating at a reduced capacity, or staggering shifts to decrease the number of people who are in the workplace at one time.
- Plastic dividers are another alternative to protect employees.
- Deliver services remotely (e.g. phone, video, or web) where practical.
