AFC Urgent Care Trumbull offers high-quality digital x-rays on site. The benefit of having x-ray services at an urgent care center is to surpass the long wait at the emergency room and is more cost-effective. When an injury occurs, we know you are anxious to find out what your next step is in the treatment process. Our digital x-rays can give you the answers that you need fast.
Are x-rays only for broken bones?
No, you may need an x-ray for several reasons without even knowing it. X-rays can assist with broken bones, dislocated joints, pneumonia, foreign bodies (such as embedded glass and metal), and bowel obstruction.
Who is reading the x-rays?
The physician will review your x-rays while you are at our facility. Additionally, the images are sometimes required to be over-read by board-certified teleradiology physicians to further ensure that you have received the most accurate diagnosis. You will never be discharged without a definitive diagnosis.
What if you do have a fractured bone?
At our one-stop shop, we offer splints, crutches, and casts to immobilize musculoskeletal injuries while diminishing pain and promoting healing. We can also give you a CD of your x-ray images if you need a referral to an orthopedist.
Is radiation dangerous?
No. Our highly trained, board-certified x-ray technologists use the number one rule of ALARA, which is “As Low As Reasonably Achievable." They shield every patient and use minimal radiation, depending on the body part being examined. Always remember to tell your radiologic technologist if there is a chance of pregnancy.

X-rays do use small amounts of radiation, but they’re generally safe for adults and children. That being said, there are some cases where they can be damaging – to developing babies, for instance. Your AFC provider will take your circumstances into account and answer your unique questions about safety.
Your local AFC team can help you answer that question when you contact them. If you’ve experienced a fall or other injury and are in pain, an X-ray could help determine the best course of treatment. They’re also used in a variety of other circumstances.
At AFC, we always strive to get you in and out as quickly as possible, and the X-ray itself should only take around 15 minutes
