What’s That You Say…?
Ear wax build up is one of the more common causes of partial hearing loss, but it can also cause a sense of vertigo, itching, ringing in the ears, coughing and in some cases pain.
In most cases, your ears are self cleaning. However, if you experience any of the above symptoms, it may be time to get your ears cleaned by a physician. Fortunately, this build up is treatable.
It’s important to note that doctors recommend against removing ear wax by using a cotton swab, ear “candle”, or other home remedies. The tissue in the ear is very thin and delicate; therefore, these methods can damage the tissue or push the wax deeper into the ear canal, causing infection or injury.
The American Academy of Otolaryngology recommends, “If you are prone to repeated wax impaction or use hearing aids, consider seeing your doctor every 6 to 12 months for a checkup and routine preventive cleaning.”
For safe ear wax removal, come to AFC Urgent Care Waltham any day between 8am to 8pm, no appointment needed. Our physicians are trained in ear wax removal and perform this procedure often.
