Rapid COVID Testing FAQs for Patients

August 14, 2020

"

AFC Urgent Care Watertown now offers Rapid COVID-19 Testing for patients that need fast and immediate testing of the novel coronavirus. Whenever patients need a same-day COVID test, they can book an appointment online and find the most immediate opening for COVID-19 testing.

This new type of testing is now available at many urgent care centers, including AFC Arlington and Watertown, which may help patients get immediate and fast testing services. Our previous blog on rapid testing explains, the test allows patients to quickly get results on the same day of their visit without having to wait for results. Providers at AFC Urgent Care provide a clean and sanitary medical facility for COVID-19 screening, testing, and test analysis.

If you’ve just heard of Rapid COVID-19 testing, or want more information about testing, please consult our FAQs below in regard to pricing, access, and how to book testing:

What is the process for booking COVID-19 Rapid Testing?

Patients that need to book COVID-19 rapid testing may call our use our online portals to find the next available time slot for testing.

It is important to understand that call volume is unusually high because of the demand for COVID-19 testing. We advise patients to use the buttons on our home page, in our banner, and other areas of the site to book a COVID-19 telehealth visit. A screening is required for all patients and allows our providers to safely test as many people as possible. Our provider team will then ensure that you are booked for your test. Just follow team communications such as emails and follow ups.

Our team is working extremely hard to provide as many rapid tests as we can, while demand continues to sore.

When do my test results come back?

Rapid tests for COVID-19 can provide results as quickly as 45 minutes from the time you check in, get your swab sample, and wait for results to come back. A provider is able to use our antigen testing technology to quickly issue a test for our patients.

Unlike standard swab tests that take upwards of 3-5 days, a rapid test gives your results back on the same day as your visit. Rapid testing allows our providers to quickly test a greater number of people within a given time frame.

How much does rapid testing for COVID-19 cost?

For asymptomatic patients, COVID-19 testing is usually covered by insurance if deemed medically necessary. However, Mass.Gov explains that some tests may vary based on insurance coverage. Please consult our provider team and your health plan administrator if you have any additional questions.

An out-of-pocket cost for the rapid test is $175 for patients that aren’t getting tested as a medically qualified test. Again, it is crucial that you consult your health plan provider to review benefits.
