Influenza can be a serious disease that may lead to hospitalization and even death. At the very least, it can (and will) make you feel awful for several days, even if you are young and healthy. Almost everyone who is at least 6 months of age should get a flu vaccine this season, including pregnant women. The exceptions include people with allergy to eggs, those who have fever at the time of intended vaccination, and a few others. The government’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pediatricians, internists, infectious disease specialists and family doctors, all agree that, with few exceptions, everyone should be immunized.
We at AFC Urgent Care recommend that everyone receive the flu vaccine unless advised not to do so by their physician. If you do develop the flu (which may happen even if you obtain the vaccination) or come in contact with an individual with the flu we at AFC Urgent Care Watertown can still help. There are treatments which can help prevent or shorten the disease and minimize the symptoms. Call or visit us for further information.
