Did you know that we are heading into an early spring allergy season? Just like last year, we had a warmer than usual winter. Our bodies got used to the warm sporadic temperatures which in turn causes our immune systems to become hypersensitive. Tree and grass pollen are usually the culprits in the springtime and they’re now starting to bloom and spread pollen in the air.
If you’re an allergy sufferer, this means sneezing, congestion and watery eyes. In some cases it can trigger asthma symptoms. AFC Urgent Care Danbury understands that this year is going to be a severe spring allergy season and has created a guide on how to prepare and treat allergies.
Preparing For A Severe Spring Allergy Season
Here are a few things that can help cut down on the severity of allergies and let you still enjoy the spring season.
- If you’ve been outside, take a shower before you go to bed and change into fresh clothes so you don’t bring pollen onto your sheets that may have clung to your skin, hair or clothes.
- Avoid outdoor activities when pollen counts are at its highest (usually in the mornings)
- It’s best to go outside after a good rain, which helps clear pollen from the air.
- Keep car and home windows closed and opt for air conditioning at night to keep pollen out.
- Change your bedding and pillow covers often.
- Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter
- If you have asthma, get extra refills for your inhaler
Is COVID-19 Still At Large?
People still have COVID on their minds. The Omicron variant was very prevalent during the winter holiday season and many of us faced upper respiratory symptoms like congestion, headaches, and runny noses. Although we have seen a decrease in cases in the past month, it is still very much a threat, especially since we’re all going to start sneezing and wheezing again soon.
After all, some symptoms of COVID-19 overlap with symptoms of allergies. If you’re worried about COVID-19 still being a factor, then it’s time to get tested. Getting tested can help rule out COVID and if it is allergies or asthma, we can help treat you!
