Man Getting A Checkup At AFC Urgent Care Danbury For The Most Common Men’s Health Issues

Preventative care is important for both men and women so that they can avoid major health issues. But, unlike women who do actually go to the doctor regularly, men have a tendency to avoid their annual checkups, or coming in when they have an injury. This is a big mistake because this habit of skipping a doctor’s appointment can lead to potential health threats.

Men need to be aware of potential health issues and to get checkups regularly. Many health problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and others can be addressed with early diagnosis and treatment. In recognition of June being Men's Health month, AFC Urgent Care Danbury is committed to helping men tackle these issues.

Becoming more aware of these issues is the first step. The next step is admitting that you might be at risk for developing one of these health problems and that you need to get a checkup more often. For this reason, we created a guide on the most common health concerns that men can easily prevent.

Most Common Health Concerns That Men Can Prevent

Cardiovascular disease (heart disease) is the leading cause of death for men in the U.S. If you add uncontrolled blood pressure, and unmanaged cholesterol, it can lead to heart disease and other serious conditions. Statistics continue to prove that heart disease is related to heart attacks and strokes.

Diabetes is also on the list for top health concerns men should be aware about. It’s often referred to as a “silent” killer because it can start at a very early age without any symptoms. Having diabetes also raises your risk for developing other dangerous conditions such as: Heart disease, heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, nerve damage, eye problems. The last thing you want is for diabetes to affect your nervous system, cause organ failures and worse, amputations.

Next, on the list is cancer in men. Prostate cancer and testicular cancer affect millions of men every year and can often go undetected. Just like women who perform self-checks for breast cancer, men need to perform regular self-checks for testicular cancer. Lastly, going to the doctor more often and getting a full checkup will help any guy with early detection and treatment.

***These things can be prevented if you go to the doctor, man.

Health And Safety In The Workplace Matters For Men Too!

Each year, The U.S Bureau Of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports both fatal and nonfatal injuries and illnesses at the workplace. In these reports, there is a big disparity between men and women when it comes to injuries and illnesses (60% of men compared to 40% of women). With that being said, men need to be more careful in the workforce.

According to these reports (BLS), slips and falls, sprains, lacerations and tears were some of the top non-fatal injuries. In light of June being health and safety month, we encourage men to take more safety precautions at work by wearing safety gear and avoiding overexerting themselves in dangerous working environments.
