What Happens During A Covid-19 Rapid Test?

Patients are required to wear a mask when visiting AFC Urgent Care Danbury West for COVID-19 rapid testing, lowering them only when asked for the collection of the sample. The sample is collected by taking a gentle swab of the upper nasal cavity. While patients may feel mild discomfort, the procedure is painless. After the sample is collected, it is brought to our on-site lab, where it is processed and analyzed using a machine specifically designed for the rapid test. The test is performed by mixing the sample with a solution that only targets the COVID-19 virus, ignoring any other virus present in the sample. The solution breaks apart the virus, exposing the genome and genetic material of COVID-19. The genome is then replicated in specific molecules from your sample, which can detect the presence of the active COVID-19 virus. Once the test has been processed and completed, the results will be displayed on the screen as well as printed. Why Should I Get The Covid-19 Rapid Diagnostic Test?

The rapid test allows you to get results the day of your test, while standard NAAT/PCR testing takes up to three days for results. Getting your results quickly allows you to immediately begin self-isolation and contacting anyone you may have been in close contact with to inform them to get tested including coworkers and family members. If your results come back positive, you should prepare to self-isolate for at least two weeks to make sure you are both asymptomatic and no longer contagious when you are re-tested.
