At Danbury we see a good number of diabetic patients walk through our door. Dr. Brown talks about the warning signs of Diabetes in this Medical Minute:
Diabetes is a group of diseases that can result in high sugar, or glucose, levels. It is not uncommon, and here in the U.S. afflicts about 25 million people. Out of those 25 million, 8-9 million go un-diagnosed, which can be very dangerous. Untreated diabetes can lead to kidney disease, cardiac disease and stroke, nerve damage, vision problems, organ deterioration, amputation and possibly death.
This is why it is vital to be checked by your physician, and tested for diabetes or pre-diabetes if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Diabetes symptoms: unusual weight gain, increased appetite, increased thirst or nerve pain or feet ulcerations.
When under control, diabetics can live a long healthy life. Please be pro-active if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms and get yourself checked.
