Fitness Trends to Look Out for in 2019

May 5, 2021

It’s no secret that the fitness industry is continually evolving and changing. From Zumba to hot yoga, we’ve seen many trends come around over the years. Some stick, some only last a short time, but they all gain a lot of attention in their prime. Following fitness, trends is a fun way to switch up your workout regimen to see continued results and avoid boredom in the gym.

HIIT

HIIT, also known as High-Intensity Interval Training, has allowed people to find the time to incorporate a fitness routine into their busy schedules. Short, intense workouts have been shown to be just as effective as longer workouts. Long, drawn-out cardio exercises are something that most people avoid at all costs, but HIIT exercises allow you to get your heart rate surging in a fraction of the time. As 2019 continues, you should expect to see HIIT combined with other activities, like yoga and Pilates.

Boxing

MMA fighting has a cult following, and that popularity has led to boxing becoming a new fitness trend. Boxing allows people to incorporate cardio and strength training into one exercise, all while feeling the rush of a safe fighting environment. The adrenaline associated with the practice makes it fun and exciting, but still extremely useful.

Muscle Recovery

Recovery is just as important as the exercise itself, maybe even more critical. 2019 is going to be focused primarily on muscle recovery through some of the following methods:

  • Massage
  • Foam rolling
  • Meditation
  • Breathing techniques
  • Post-workout meals
  • Studios

As more fitness trends take off that involve group training and classes, be prepared for the influx of fitness studios rather than gyms. These studies will focus on a variety of exercises and activities that are fun, interactive, and extremely effective. Cross Fit took off in popularity in recent years, but we expect to see more effective and less injury prone studios gain popularity this year. If group sessions aren’t your thing, don’t worry, the traditional big box gym isn’t going anywhere.
Overall, fitness is trending in 2019! Rather than promoting crash diets and useless gimmicks, the fitness industry is finally focusing on what really works. The variety of exercises available to fit any budget, schedule, and individual needs have made fitness more accessible than ever. In 2019, there indeed are no excuses and nothing holding you back from getting involved in the fitness trend!
