Family holiday traditions are the best part of this time of year. Traditions bring people together, make you feel nostalgic, and offers a break from the stress of normal day-to-day life. Unfortunately, many holiday traditions that families share aren’t so healthy. We want to help change that this year! Check out these tips and suggestions to make your holiday traditions a little healthier.
Being Healthy Doesn’t Mean Giving Up Fun
It’s important to note that creating healthy traditions doesn’t mean giving up the family fun. In fact, some healthy traditions are even more fun than the unhealthy alternatives!
You’ve just got to go into it with an open mind, ready to have fun. Encourage your family members to do the same. If parents talk about new traditions like they’ll be fun, kids are sure to follow suit!
New Healthy Holiday Traditions to Try
If you’re in need of healthy holiday tradition ideas, give one of these a try!
- Outdoor winter fun – you may think cold weather forces you to stay inside, but that isn’t the case. Try a fun winter outdoor activity to get everyone up and moving. Snowboarding, snow tubing, ice skating, and even building a snowman are some great things to try.
- Try New Recipes – trying a new recipe together is a great way to get everyone together, bonding in one room of the home. Find some healthy recipes to replace your traditional ones and give them a shot. If your kids love making Christmas cookies, they’ll still love it even if the recipe is a little more health conscious!
- Caroling – caroling is an old-fashioned holiday tradition that’s making a comeback. It’s a great way to get out of the house and out of your comfort zone all at the same time! If you’re nervous, try to find a local caroling group that you can join in with until you get the hang of it.
- Read Christmas stories – instead of just watching Christmas movies, encourage your children to read Christmas stories with you as a family. Take them out to buy a few new books and watch them fall in love with the holiday spirit on the pages!
