Drug Testing in Southcenter at AFC Urgent Care

DOT/Non DOT Drug testing

Employers are required to test their DOT regulated safety sensitive employees for the following controlled substances:

  • Marijuana
  • Cocaine
  • Amphetamines / Methamphetamines
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Opiates (Opium and codeine derivatives)
  • Urinalysis is the most common test type used for federally mandated drug testing programs.

When an employer requires a drug test from an employee, the employee is forwarded to a collection site, like AFC Urgent Care. Here, the employee’s (urine) sample is collected in a specially designed, secured cup and sealed; with a Tamper Resistant closure. The cup is picked up or sent by express delivery to a testing lab, where it is tested for drugs.

At the lab, the initial step is to divide the sample into two aliquots. One is screened for drugs using an analyzer that performs immunoassay as part of the initial screening. If the sample (urine) screen is positive, another aliquot is used to

confirm the findings by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). The test results are sent to a Medical Review Officer (MRO), a medical physician, who reviews the results. If negative, the MRO informs the employer

the employee is clean and has no detectable drug in their urine.

New U.S. Department of Transportation regulations require specimens indicating low temperature or show signs of adulteration will be admitted with a second specimen from the donor, collected under direct observation. That is, the donor is to void / provide a new sample in full view of the collector or observer. The new regulations also require the donor raise and lower clothing and turn around in front of the collector / observer to demonstrate the donor is not in possession of any device or substance with intent to falsify test results. It is illegal in many states to possess or sell any such substance or device.

Hair Drug Testing

Drug abuse in the workplace puts employers at a risk for higher insurance costs, increased accidents, more absenteeism and lower productivity. Hair testing, like all drug testing methodologies, helps to mitigate these risks by screening out applicants and employees who use drugs. AFC Urgent Care Southcenter provides hair testing for drugs to help you provide a safe workplace for all your employees.

Hair testing for drugs of abuse is the only testing method that provides up to a 90-day drug use history. Unlike urine drug testing, which may only detect drug use within the past 2-3 days, better suited for post-accident or reasonable suspicion testing, hair testing is the most effective way to evaluate long-term patterns of use. When compared with urine testing, hair testing provides over twice the number of positives due to its longer detection window. This makes hair testing an excellent option for a pre-employment of random testing program.

Hair testing requires a small sample of hair collected under direct supervision without any invasion of privacy. During a hair collection, the collector cuts approximately 100-120 strands of hair from the crown of the donor’s head. The hair is cut as close to the scalp as possible, so only the strands of hair above the scalp are tested and not the actual hair follicle.

5-panel hair test can detect cocaine, marijuana, opiates (codeine, morphine & 6-acetylmorphine,), amphetamines (methamphetamine, MDMA, MDA), and phencyclidine (PCP).

At this time there are no known successful commercial adulterants for hair tests and the recommended use of normal hair care products/procedures (shampoos, dyes, permanents, relaxers, bleaches) do not have a significant effect on results.

Let AFC Urgent Care assist you with your drug testing program. As the area’s most comprehensive Urgent Care Clinic, we offer you and your business accessible, affordable support.

DOT Required Drug & Alcohol Tests

Pre-Employment

This is the most common type of drug test used by businesses. Our priority at AFC Urgent Care is to keep the work place a safe environment for everyone. We assist our customers to stay compliant with the DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.

Post-Accident

Post-accident / incident drug testing is not a very commonly used test as compared to others, but the financial liability of not testing employees after an accident / incident on the job makes this test essential for most businesses / employers. The intent is not to necessarily cause the employee to lose his / her job, but to protect the company from liability in the event the individual is under the influence / affect at the time of the accident / incident. If drugs or alcohol are detected in any quantity, the argument could be made in court the employee was intoxicated while on the job, and for that reason, the company should not be held liable for the employee’s resultant injuries.

Random Drug Testing

AFC Urgent Care Southcenter can provide Random Drug and Alcohol testing via urine and hair for:

  • Employers
  • Confidential / Private individuals
  • Department of Transportation & Other government agencies

Random drug testing is the most effective format and is used in 23 of the 50 States. It is used by a growing number of organizations including government agencies, including the military; companies / corporations, police and fire departments, drug rehab centers and an increasing number of schools. It may be used by parents on their teen aged children, or mandated to be performed at school. The goal of random drug testing is to discourage drug use among employees, students, etc. by not telling anyone who / when or where they are to be tested in advance.

Whether your business calls for pre-employment, post-accident / incident, random drug testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Return to Duty or follow-up testing programs, AFC Urgent Care can support you. AFC Urgent Care can provide 5 panel DOT and non-DOT drug tests, plus 10-panel non-DOT drug testing or any combination your business may need.

Lab testing includes sample collection, transport to the testing lab, analysis, confirmation by a certified lab and a test review by a Medical Review Officer (MRO).

  • Cannabinoids (marijuana, hashish – tests for metabolite THCCOOH)
  • Cocaine (cocaine, benzoylecognine, cocaethylene) – tests for cocaine metabolite)
  • Methylenedioxymethamphetamine ( ecstasy or MDMA)
  • Benzodiazepines (BZO)
  • Methadone (MTD)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants (TCA)
  • Opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine, 6-MAM)
  • Amphetamines (amphetamine, methamphetamine)
