Coronavirus Antibody Testing in Springfield, MA

AFC Urgent Care Springfield is now offering coronavirus antibody testing through a simple blood test. The test, known as SARS-CoV-2 AB is able to detect the presence of antibodies developed from past infection and results are typically available within 48 hours depending on lab capacity.

Am I Eligible For Coronavirus Antibody Testing?

Patients who have been asymptomatic and fever-free for at least fourteen days can be tested for coronavirus antibodies.

What Is The Difference Between Diagnostic Testing And Antibody Testing?

COVID-19 diagnostic testing is performed via a swab of the lower nasal cavity. The swab is then sent to our lab where it is tested for the active COVID-19 virus. Antibody testing is performed using a blood draw and can only detect past infection, not the active virus. Results from the diagnostic test are available the same day, while antibody results take a couple of days to process.

What Do The Results Of An Antibody Test Indicate?

A Positive Antibody Test indicates exposure to coronavirus and the presence of antibodies. Research is still being conducted to determine the extent of protection against further infection with the virus.

Negative Antibody Test Results indicate no exposure to COVID-19, though you may have been exposed too recently to have formed antibodies against the virus. Regardless of your results, it is important to continue following local health and safety guidelines including continued social distancing and wearing a mask or protective face covering when making trips into public areas. For more information on how antibody testing is conducted and interpreted, please check the CDC Website for the latest updates.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
