Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still very much alive. Millions of Americans have fallen ill to the coronavirus, and cases have been spiking during the winter.
However, we’d encourage you not to panic if you do find yourself ill due to COVID-19. Read on as our team at AFC Urgent Care Cleveland explains why.
How Serious Is COVID-19?
Because COVID-19 is such a new virus, scientists, doctors and medical experts alike are still learning about the likelihood of death with every new case. But the numbers are staggering—one in 1,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 this year.
Even though this is way too many deaths from any sickness, the likelihood of dying from COVID-19 is still relatively low. There are things that you can do to reduce your risk of getting the coronavirus, and we’ve listed those below.
Health-Safety Precautions to Reduce COVID-19 Risk
- Mask up in public.
- Remain socially distant from those not in your immediate household.
- Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid large gatherings.
- Stay home if you or someone you know feels sick.
How Can I Recover If I Do Get the Coronavirus?
The CDC states that most people, if you don’t experience any of the serious symptoms that we’ve listed below, can make a full recovery from the virus at home.
This means doing things like getting plenty of sleep, staying hydrated and taking over-the-counter medication, such as acetaminophen, when needed. However, if you do experience any of the below symptoms, it’s important to call 911 immediately.
Severe COVID-19 Symptoms
- Serious breathing troubles
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion
- Inability to wake or stay awake
- Bluish lips or face
